2012 Sonoma Bicycle Expo

I know three post in one week, what the what??  Anyway last Sunday the crew put on a all day flatland demo at the 3rd annual Sonoma Bicycle Expo.  Last year we had a spot about as big as the vendors, this year we came correct, a bigger spot, we added a couple of guess riders, and also a PA system provided by Geoffrey Smith.  This year event included the VeloGenesis where local bike builders put there heads together to make a steel custom town bike, and also Calfee was making there signature bamboo bike for a couple of lucky raffle winners.

A big thanks to the Sonoma Bicycle Coalition, Sandra Lupien, Dylan,  Gary Helfrich, Geoffrey Smith, OSG, OneLoveCrew, and the silent shredder Ed B.
Thanks again and see you next year!

USA Road Trip by Dane Beardsley

I was kinda shock to see this, when Dane was in town a few months back he got some clips of the crew, now in my head I was thinking this footage probably wouldn't see the light of day for at least another few months.  I guess I was wrong, this is awesome!  I am really stoked on seeing trail legend Adam Baker, and also Ted Van Orman, and Cale murder the trails.
More riders should get away from there monitors, and travel more, and not just to contest or jams, just get out and travel to see the other scenes, states, countries, people and culture.  Every BMX scene has  these elements.  Try it out, you may like what you see.

Primo/OneLoveBmx

Primo/OneLove from One Love BMX on Vimeo.

Two months ago we got hooked up with Primo BMX, between conflicting work schedules, broken frames, and a mini heat wave, I finally got some clips of the crew together for our welcome edit.

While this was in the oven, our homie Steve "Dirty" Hearn got picked up on S&M flow, so instead of throwing down for this edit, he said "Im gonna make that kitty purr" for the next S&M/Primo/OneLoveBmx edit.... Coming soon!

A big S/O to Primo BMX, John Richards(TM), Fano, Chad J, and Sean M @ S&M Bikes for all the support.

Shaka Brah

Dane Beardsley stopped thru the hood for a week long visit.  It was great to see the country cousin out here in The Bay.  It was a hazy week, but I can recall a lot of riding, checking out various school yards, a river trip, beers, banana nut bread, and Cali's finest.

Safe journey's Dane, it was a blast to have you out.

Daily News

Well it's been a while since the last posting, so Im gonna get ya'll caught up.  First up, the OneLoveCrew is now sponsored by PrimoBMX.  Eric(sales guru & fellow hiphopjunkie) @ John(TM) have been looking out for the crew since day one.  We are really stoked on being part of a company that has been a big part in BMX history.  Look for our welcome edit filmed by Shayne K. coming soon.

DubSteps ride sittin on Dub's in front of the new Norcal House
Second up, Shayne K. has officially started a new NorCal BMX house.  Current tennets include Steve "Muscle" Hearn and Dave "NipsyHustle" Debuono. A killer backyard with a palm tree, multiple rack system for all the whips , and an ill ass fire pit,  these guys just went from ashy to classy.

Backward kickflip to wheelchair

Kerry Gatt

Third up, almost two weeks ago,  the crew went out to Walnut Creek to ride with Kerry Gatt, Ed Benoit, and Dylan Worsley.  To say the least, this was an epic session.  Sorry folks there was no filming went down at this session.  After the session Kerry took us out to one of the local pubs for a few pitcher of brew.  While out on the patio, Andrew Arroyo stopped by.  I though he was a myth, but no he was there in the flesh.  He still rides and occasionally stops for sleep out in Napa in his VW.

the realness
And last but not least, VoodooJam2012 is going down today!  If you're there please drink a hurricane for me at the event.  So stoked for Scott & Terry to bring back one of the most legit American contest ever.  Good luck to all the riders, and for those who made the journey by car, drive safe.  Im out.

Posse Up Edits

Im gonna post some of these amazing crew edits. The LBC crew has one also, once they get it uploaded ill post it up.  Most blogger either put some or none of the clips up.  So a big S/O to FlatmattersOnline and Flatland Way! for posting these amazing edits.  Make sure you stop by and submit you Posse Up edit if you want to show the masses how you and your posse gets down.

A lot of time and love went into these edits.  To me it proves that flatland isnt a lone man sport, but a way to get your homies together for the same common intrest...To have fun!   Enjoy.

707

Here it is.  Our entry to Posse Up video contest.  The original plan was to capture all of the bay area riders, but with little money and the wine tours starting up, I decided to use the footage that I had since the deadline is less than 6 days away.

The hardest part of this edit was the soundtrack.  After 6 songs on the timeline, I went back to an old folder and found this gem. "Bust yo Shit" calls out all the people who hide behind there screens.  Sometimes I wonder what flatland would be without the internet, but then there wouldn't be any rad contest like this one.

This was really fun to put together, unlike SoCal, we had a few showers that slowed down the filming process, but other than that, filming the homie was great!  The concept of the contest is dope, you get the chance to see other people who enjoy this sport as much as you do, and enjoying it with there homies too.  I hope to see more entires in the next few day. Peace!

10 Questions - Jon "tha Duke" Dowker

Man I don't even know were to start this one.  I met Jon around 2001 at the first CFB, he had a flyer he was passing out about a party at the Easy St. house in Athens Ga.  A year later I went out on my first BMX tour...solo, my goal was to hit every contest that year, and man that was a lot back then, anyway the last stop of my tour was York Pa.  This also happens to be the second time I ran into Jon.  Jon had drove a van full of trifling m'fer's to this event from Athens.  He told me there was a place to stay, and I should check it out.  The rest is history.
Front Wheel Boogie @ Final Exam Jam 2004

I'm stoked to have Jon as a very good friend.  And I'm glad that this super rad guy is still doing his thing.  So enough of this stuff lets get to know Jonathan Luc Dowker aka tha Duke!

DW - How many canadians know about "grits"?
JD - Maybe 7? Just a guess :)

DW -  Twilight has been going on for quite sometime, how long has this event been going down, any stand outs?
JD - 9 years now! No sleep, building ramps, half ass flatland area, drunk girls, corrupted children, upset parents, inebriated Scottsmen, a hell of a hang over! Every year is always a blur LOL. Always a blast! Even when its rained out! LOL

tha Duke and Rudy

DW -  What kind of beer would you switch to if PBR would go out of business?
JD - That's a terrible thought! Hmmmm? Just shoot me.

DW - What goes down when the show season slows down for you? Any hobbies?
JD - Always seem to be working on someone car? I'm supposed to be retired!

DW -  You and Anne been together for a hot minute.  When and where will the wedding go down?
JD - I'm holding out on this one. Too cheap to buy a ring :D

DW -  Describe the riding scene in Athens Ga?
JD - Geez Darin. Tough question?  Sweaty, dedicated, hazy, slack, drunk, hung over, repeat, awesome! :)

DW - VW or Honda?
JD - That's a tough one. VW is cooler but Honda will more likely get you there ;)

DW -  Brakes or no brakes?
JD - Suit yourself. I like em :)

DW - Shout outs?
tha Duke and his other bike
JD - Jason Smith, Marco Morini back in the Great White North. Bobby Carter and Josh Evans back in Michigan, Shawn Burnham, Graeme Burke and Bobby Fisher in Knoxville TN. Jody Temple, Dane Beardsley, Darin Wright, Shayne K, Roman Wislon, Halifax Dave, Andrew Wikham, Kent Pearson, Jarred Sutton, Kyle Kelsey, Rob Christianson, Russell Summerville, Jon Bast, Ryan Davis, Bob Walters, Justin Felco, Andy Cooper are just a few off the top of my head. There are so many good peeps out there that I love. Just keep it wheel guys. I have the best friends anyone could ask for :) Better not forget about Anne Yarbrough :) She keeps me straight somehow? HAha

DW -  Shameless promo?
JD - TheFreestyleConnection Check it out! Were awesome :D

Album Review - Random Axe

Man sometimes I just miss album releases.  I guess being out here and the only HipHop head in the crew, just sometimes albums sneak past me.  This latest review is from the supergroup Random Axe, now lets not get supergroups mixed up with crews, Wu-Tang Clan is a crew, Native Tongue is a supergroup.  Anyway Random Axe is compose of Sean Price(Ruck of Helter Skelter), Guilty Simpson(Detroit native), and producer/emcee Black Milk.  Talk of this super group was announced back in '08.  Good things come to those who wait.

All I can say is if you're a fan of Sean P. and Guilty Simpson, then you won't be disappointed.  Sean P. and Guilty delivery flow is always on point, hard rhymes with a dark humor twist.  Black Milk continues to bring the gritty beats, and the album is a nice 40 min of listening pleasure.

With the recent MTV post of there Top 10 emcee I begin to wonder if this will be the last of supergroups.  I hope to see more supergroups in the future, cause Hip Hop is in a sad state right now.

R.I.P Big L

Today marks the death of one of the greatest emcees to ever live, Lamont Coleman aka Big L.  A member of the D.I.T.C crew (Diggin' in tha Creates) and also he founded Harems Children of the Corn, man I miss hearing Murda Mase, and Killa Cam spit on those singles.

Big L was killed in a drive-by shooting on Feb 15, 1999.  But of course as we see in history, the illest emcees deaths are never solved.

Big L you will be missed.  Check out his  first appearance on Yo! MTV Raps with Lord Finesse promoting his album "Return of the Funky Man", and this freestyle, over Ras Kass H20 Proof beat.

R.I.P Whitney Houston

The cause of death is still not know.  All I know right now is I wanna dance with somebody.  Rest in peace Whitney Houston.

Takin' it Back

Well in light of trying to generate more hits to the site, I began to post up other people edits.  After a few joints and bong rips last night with the crew, we decided to take it back to our original content. Sorry to all those we let down, I felt we sold out to our little followers who visit here regularly and became what we hated the most, just another mindless re-post blog.  We promise to change that starting today.  So on that note, back to our regular schedule blog post.

Ok so the other day after I posted up the Bawse edit, Shayne pointed out that Hova and Ye had just dropped there new single/video N**** in Paris.  I do have to say this shit is way hot.  No harm to a Maybach in this video, just some live ass concert footage.

Happy Birthday Bob Marley

If you dont know, now you know.  Today is Robert Nesta "Bob" Marley.  Happy Born Day Bob!  Three decades later, your music and words are an inspiration to me.

“Life and Jah are one in the same. Jah is the gift of existence. I am in some way eternal, I will never be duplicated. The singularity of every man and woman is Jah's gift. What we struggle to make of it is our sole gift to Jah. The process of what that struggle becomes, in time, the Truth.”
― Bob Marley

718video: Some 2011 joints

Another banger from the Skavenger crew.  Riding is top notch and the soundtrack is right on point.  Come to think of it, I don't think I've ever heard Bob on a street edit.

Ulrich Kittel

It's kinda old, but still worth the watch.  Ulrich is so good.

My Day with a GoPro

Baco 9

Just cause this is one of my top 5 favorite videos of all time.  Watch and learn.

430 - Free Wheeling

By the looks of this edit it seem to be a road trip from the guys at 430 Decade Shop.  Hiroshi and it looks like Green - G stopped a a few spots in the sunshine state.  Digging this edit.  Filmed with a Flip style camera, and the soundtrack happens to be the same Beastie Boys track from Baco "Straight in 98"

Cult - Let'em Talk

Cult has released there full length video online about a month ago.  You can now embed this awesome full length video to your site.  This shit is fyre!

Tree / Eben Fischer 2011 Re-visited

Damn not only you get some more freecoaster action, you also get a nice dose of the front brake.  Eben's edit is just as amazing as Josh's Madera edit.   Eben's style is a little more tech in my eye's, but you can be the judge of that.

TCU Exclusive - Josh Eilken

Ok this is another TCU exclusives.  Josh's fakie style is on point.  Digging the freecoaster action, and the super tech line around 1:25.  You wont be disappointed.

Beats Rhymes & Life

I just checked out the A Tribe Called Quest's new documentary "Beats Rhymes & Life.  It was awesome.  I had no idea what impact Tribe had to the music industry, and myself.  One thing I did learn from Tribe's music, was to be myself, and to express myself as how i feel fit, the way I talk, dress, even ride a bike.

Go cop this and watch it with your homies or your girl, you wont be disappointed.

Dane Beardsley Interview - Offline.hu

Another post featuring the folks down in the dirty south.  Dane "muthafuckin'" Beardsley drops some knowledge on you trifling ass fools in this Hungarian interview.  I hear Dane makes a mean margarita.

Digging this edit by Fly Bikes promo. It looks like this was filmed around LBC.  Kevin is so smooth.  If you look closely you can see Sean F and Ryan R riding at the famous "The Globe".  Flat guys should be into this frame, low stand over, and a short back end.

G-SHOCK REAL TOUGHNESS TOKYO BMX STREET 2011

Finally the BMX street from G-Shock Real Toughness is live.  I wonder why there is no Akira in the mix, its still worth watching.  Such a small stage to hold a rail jam.

70% Precipitation, 100% Intoxication

Man this is awesome.  A group of dudes from the Michigan rolled down to Austin Tx to ride, but only to discover that its raining the whole time during there visit.  I know up in the bay, rain means drinking, hence the name of the edit.

BMX / SK8 Colab

Im not sure how the skateboard community feels about this edit, but I think this edit is awesome.  Chad Kerly and Theotis Beasley doing it for Markit.  Maybe we will see more SK8 and BMX colabs in the future.

Sunday Bikes- TJ Henderson

Dude this video is so good.  The intro is so good. Sometimes you have to just show m'fer's that you aint no punk bitch.  Another awesome edit from Sunday Bikes.

Jeff DesRoche 06

Man watching makes me think how many people riding got influence by Jeff.  Jeff kills it in this edit.

OneLoveJam 2012 Report

Brock taking a victory hop after winning $300 cash on Sat
It's been a while since last update.  OneLoveJam went down on last Saturday.  We left the bay super early.  First stop, The Bicycle Source bbq.  These dude threw down some burgers and a small jam in front of the shop.  The Canadians were taking advantage of southern California winters, Cory, and Percy were killing it, I still don't see how they could even ride that spot.  The sun went down, and the next session was going down at Ryan Russell's crib.  He happens to room with Ben Snowden.  This spot is so rad, and it has a flat slab.  Ryan was also cool with us camping out on the beach, yes a beach on the side of the skatepark.  We retired early so we could beat traffic, and get a chance to ride the lot before people show up.

I couldn't believe no traffic on the PCH.  We got to the spot, and there were already people hang out.  I knew this was going to be a awesome day.  It was great to be out riding before the chaos, I was in my zone, and next thing, I looked up and the lot is full.  The Red Bull MTX truck pulled up and did it's transformer thing and proceeded to blast tunes all day.  It was a close one though, the lifeguard rolled up on the DJ, they talked, and then he left.  No troubles from Babylon, no wind, beautiful skies, it was a perfect day to be on a bike.

The bunnyhop contest started around 2:30.  Some Red Bull girls where on deck to pass out cold beverages while the contest was going on.  I was impress, the flat guys really wanted that $300.  Some of the flat guys even made it to the 30.0 inch mark.  Rob from Bike D.I.C.E got up to 40.0 inches also.  But the cool cash went to Brock who happen to clear the most righteous hight of 42.0 inches.

It was a blast.  I got to see old faces, and new faces.  I hope to see everyone one next year.  A big shoutout to our sponsors, Red Bull, Primo, S&M, Bike D.I.C.E, Sidual, Diversiontv, ESPN, Jeremy Pavia, Brian Tunney, Chad & Amy Johnston, Neon Media, Animal, Deco, East County BMX, Operativ, Kink, Innertwine, Jungle Rider, and anyone else I forgot.  Thanks again for coming out.

See you next year!
